I was asked by The Cake Shop Bakery in Woodbridge, Suffolk, to take care of the visual identity for the shop’s relaunch in February 2013.
The bakery, run by the Wright family for over 70 years, has been central to the town’s life since 1946. The relaunch was to coincide with the passing of the business down to the next generation, and in close consultation with them – and alongside their interior design plans – we produced an identity that simultaneously paid tribute to the original shop while placing it squarely in the present, and setting it up for another 40+ years of providing for the local community.
As part of this work, I was responsible for designing and illustrating: the logo and overarching identity, the website and all literature (brochures, leaflets, flyers), as well as co-ordinating production for tees, tote bags, rubber stamps and promotional material.
The overall aesthetic is analogue: all packaging is rubber stamped by hand, the promotional material is printed using the beautiful Riso process, the shop signage is hand-painted and the tees and totes are hand-pulled screen-prints.
Huge thanks to David, Lindsey, Christine and Peter at the Cake Shop for making the job such a pleasure. Thanks also to I Dress Myself for the tees & totes, Ditto Press for the Riso prints and Blade for the rubber stamps.
