The poster for Sofrito's 2009 gig with the then-newly-formed collective that weaves folkloric, pan-Atlantic rhythms fromthree corners represented by the core members: London, Ghana, Venezuela. A truly unique sound, Family Atlantica blends Venezuelan forms including the traditional, hypnotic Quitiplás with Ghanaian rhythmic forms, Delta blues, spiritual jazz and a myriad of other influences that de-lineate the forced migration of the trans-atlantic slave trade. My poster abstracted the dancing form of lead singer Luzmira Zerpa, who here becomes the Atlantic ocean made human. It was a hell of a show.
